Hello, my name is Dora Marinova.
I was born and grew up in Sofia. I graduated from National Academy of Art (Master Degree, Department Design in Advertising).
I am an artist, web&graphic designer and illustrator. I have almost two decades of professional experience in design.
My sense of aesthetic is reflected in all areas of my life. Quality, functionality and attention to detail are part of my personality, which is also reflected in my work.
Since 2020, I’ve illustrated three personalized children’s books for waberry.com: “The star and (child’s name)”, “Different in the colorful world of (child’s name)” and “The letters of (child’s name)”. Тhey are suitable for children whose age ranges between two and six years old. These books combine the power of storytelling, technology and design to create a wonderful gift for every child. You can personalized, preview, order a book with any name and even add a photo which is converted as a part of the illustrations. Each book is personalized and printed just for you.
When children see themselves in a story, from learning about their own identity to discovering the world around them, they develop empathy, curiosity and confidence. I also wanted the books to be engaged for adults; after all, they’re probably the people who will be reading the story together with their kids. I like the illustrations of two of the books which are digital, but in my heart there will always be a special place for traditional drawing and painting; it’s just much more fun to do everything by hand.
Before Waberry, I worked as a Web&Graphic designer in PCstore.bg– a Bulgarian online store which offers over 7000 products and solutions – laptops, smartphones, desktops, tablets, TVs, components and etc. My responsibilities were to create landing pages for promotions and new products, visual content for newsletters, banners, social media and redesign of all website.
Before PCstore I worked like freelancer. Freelancing gave me incredible flexibility during this time. And I’m so grateful for having amazing clients and worked on exiting projects, learned a lot, and got to know so many talented people.
From 2007 to 2012 I worked for two of the leading web-based media companies-Netinfo and Investor Media Group. Аs a member of the Creative department, working closely with project managers, marketing, developers and sales team, I’ve worked upon: Redesign of all landing pages –Puls.bg and Az-zenata.bg, weather forecast web design-Dnes.bg., banners, microsites in Vbox channels, brochures and print materials. Everyday, there was a new lesson to learn about design, technology, business and people. I’m happy to have spent five years of my life learning and growing there. There are many people I had the pleasure of working with that I especially admire and especially miss.
Before Netinfo and Investor I worked seven years for Haemimont company. There were so many exiting projects like “Clifford the Big Red Dog” (Scholastic USA), Photoshot (USA), Academic Arrangements Abroad (USA), Hotshoe (UK) and etc. But most challenging production for me, were creation of multiple animation, design of interfaces and concept of eighteen educational Flash MX games for Macmillan Publishers Ltd. (UK).
With all this experience, one thing is clear. I am glad when i feel productive and create designs that make people happy 🙂
